James G. Wetzel, 92, passed away April 3, 2017 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, Indiana.
He was born September 1, 1924 in Tell City, son of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth (Nuetzel) Wetzel. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Jean (Wettmarshausen) Wetzel.
He graduated from Tell City High School in 1943 and served in the Navy during World War II as an armed guard on ships carrying supplies to troops in Europe. He retired from Tell City Chair Company after working as the payroll manager for 43 years.
James was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling.
Surviving is his sister, Kay Hammond of Evansville; brothers, Alfred Wetzel of Evansville and Robert Wetzel of Tell City; nieces, Beth Hall and Kim Rumsey; nephews Bill Wetzel, Joe, Gary and Dave Hammond, and David and Bill Hollander; and several great nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Friday, April 7 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, April 6 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and from 10 – 11 am Friday at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ Benevolent Fund.
